Bolo Mask

Origin: Zara (Bobo) Tribe, Burkina Faso
Composition: wood, pigment dyes

This outstanding mask would be worn by Zara and Bobo metalsmiths, and danced for entertainment purposes. The Bobo Tribe creates Bolo masks with horns, whereas the Zara Tribe carves them without (such as in this example). The Zara are a small subgroup of the Bobo Tribe, who, unlike the Bobo, do not practice farming (African Masks).
