The SUJARO DIRECT ACTION PROJECT (SDAP)
Who We Are and What We Do

Our work would be incomplete without acknowledging the resilience, courage and inventiveness of the people of Burkina Faso. SDAP's activities will help them take the first step on the ladder out of extreme poverty—but they are the ones that sustain it. A helping hand is not much to offer. The challenges facing many Burkinabe and others who live in extreme poverty can be met, as Jeffrey Sachs underscores in The End of Poverty, with "known, proven, reliable and appropriate technologies and interventions." It requires that all of us make the commitments and choices to help our fellow human beings, particularly those most in acute need.

SDAP has a specific set of projects set to be completed in February and March of 2010. The following is a list of specific projects we intend to complete:
•Transporting and distributing more than 40,000 items of clothing, pairs of quality shoes, bedding, toys, and other gracious donations from our clients.
•Purchasing, transporting, and distributing 3,500 to 5,000 treated family-sized mosquito nets (The range of nets is due to issues related to accessing individuals living in highly remote bush areas not accessible during the time period we will be in-country).
•Mining, engineering, purchasing, and installing an industrial-sized fresh water pump, bringing fresh water to people who currently have none.
•Providing funds for the establishment of a microlending program (funding individual economic development activities in our target communities).
•Engaging local communities in strategic planning in the areas of malnutrition and food security, children's education, health care, fresh water and sanitation projects, and sustainable economic development goals.

The total amount of funding we need for these activities this spring is $60,000.
