About Us

Welcome to SUJARO's on-line art gallery, an extension of what has become the premier destination in the United States for beautiful, top quality contemporary and ancient African art and artifacts. There is nothing like SUJARO anywhere else in the world. I hope you are able to get a sense of the magnificent pieces we have to offer in browsing and shopping the online gallery. I am one of the few, if not perhaps the only American to regularly and extensively collect while traveling in Africa and ship the treasures back to the United States. The work is extremely challenging, and it has enriched my life experience immeasurably.

We are not just an online operation. We have a private gallery, open by appointment, in downtown San Francisco, California, upstairs from where our gallery was open to the public for approximately 8 years. Just a phone call to 415-362-6601, and buyers will gain access to a truly incredible warehouse and upstairs gallery, which can overwhelm even the most seasoned and discerning collector. Serious inquiries only, please.

While it is challenging to buy art online, the quality of what we display is excellent, and better than the photos can ever portray, despite excellent quality photography. As you see with our returns policy, I guarantee that if you are not pleased with your purchase, you will promptly receive a full refund for your purchase. I sincerely hope you have the opportunity to visit one of our locations and enjoy all of the incredible items SUJARO offers, as well as to shop online.

Finally, and wonderfully, this business has become the vehicle for the recently incorporated “SDAP,” the SUJARO Direct Action Project. SDAP is a non-profit, direct action organization that works to eliminate extreme poverty in western Burkina Faso, an area of the world with particular and acute needs. If you visit www.directactionproject.org, you can get involved in some of the most important work any of us will ever do. SDAP is a project in which SUJARO staff works with other organizations, a team of local staff, and villagers in 20 villages to complete sustainable specific projects in the following areas: (1) food security, clothing and necessities; (2) clean and fresh water development; (3) children’s education; (4) health care and eliminating infectious disease; (5) microlending and economic development. Our target population is approximately 150,000 people, who live both in the bush and in and around villages in western Burkina Faso. Details are available on the SDAP website.

Any purchases you make on this website will greatly aid in our efforts, as a considerable amount of funding for the non-profit is directly given by SUJARO Gallery of African Art. When you talk to staff on the telephone, please feel free to inquire about the non-profit organization.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of our existing clients worldwide for their years of generosity and kindness in their support of SUJARO's efforts. With nearly a decade of business behind us, I personally guarantee the quality of all items on this site, which is updated daily. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
